Definition of Supernatural in 6 words: brothers, Impala, family, pain, adventure, love
Because it seems that no matter what Soctt does, the fandom is always pissed at him.
Let me explain all of this.
First of all, Scott might be the main character. But the show would still do good without him. Every other character has a deeper storyline than him. Seriously. What do we know about him? His father left them. And he was bitten by Peter. Other than that? He just become important in the beginning of the season 3 just because Jeff realised that he didn’t have a story of himself.
You are saying “Flop ass Derek”? Really? I would love to see you get through that shit and still do everything so perfectly.
Yes. Derek did go in there by his choice. But his problem? Really? He was trying to save a stupid teacher and you are calling this “his problem”?
Allison went after Derek and his pack because Scott lied to her. Even thought Derek was just trying to save his life.
“Scott cares too much about other people”? Scott didn’t give a shit about other people in the first two seasons.
So basically Scott is everything that shouldn’t be a main character on a show.
Lets start with Scott’s background. What else do we need to know? Not every main character needs to have an overly complicated background. If anything is emphasises Scott’s character more because of the lack of exciting background. What was Scott before all of this? A normal teenager with a small and semi-normal background. No family killing heart breaking story that needs to be there but just an average kid. An average kid with average grades, has asthma and benches in lacrosse.
What happens after the bite is the most important thing. This poor normal kid is thrown into a spiralling world where all of a sudden people are depending on him and werewolves and Alpha’s and packs and his own urges. What the hell does he know when he’s put into this? Nothing. Does he try his best? Yes but he does what most main characters to and that’s to stubborn himself into thinking he can do it without anyone else’s help apart from his best friend.
He doesn’t trust Derek, hell that’s given to him. When you presume a guy from the forest is trying to help you when you think he’s a murderer, would you trust him? Hell no. Scott has bigger morals than Derek. Scott is that main character where he wants to save and make sure no lives are lost.
He doesn’t care about anyone? Let me point out one thing. Jackson Whittemore. EVERYONE around him, including his best friend, was saying kill him. Let’s kill Jackson, it would be for the best. Scott hated Jackson, Jackson was a complete asshole to him and Scott could have turned around and gone ‘you know what, yeah, let’s kill him and get it over with’ but no. Scott cares. Scott doesn’t want anyone to die, even if that means saving the biggest asshole in his life.
Scott McCall tries to save everyone. Has he once tried to kill anyone of his own accord who wasn’t a purposely made threat? Peter, knew what he was doing, he intended to kill and hurt. Gerard, knew what he was doing and intended to kill and hurt. So it’s natural those threats would want to be killed, but Jackson? Scott knew it wasn’t Jackson’s fault it was happening therefore he wouldn’t let the guy die.
Sure Scott isn’t as ‘self sacrificing’ like Derek but Scott sure as hell tries. PLUS he’s a smartass cookie. The plan with Deaton to take Gerard down, the use of the murder to coax Chris into helping him again. Scott has developed A LOT over the last two seasons. He started out very lost, confused and maybe not as smart. But look at him in Season 3 now, he’s focused and willing to work with Derek now.
Scott McCall is the essence of character development on this show.
